The Relentless March of Spring 2020
It is almost unimaginable to find ourselves in this strange new world so suddenly. Just a few weeks ago, there was so much to look forward to, especially for those whose longed-planned weddings were finally on the horizon this year. Now everyone’s wedding is on hold, and in some cases cancelled, with dire financial consequences. Many tears will have been shed, and thoughts will begin to turn to alternative ideas. Everyone who ever planned a wedding will have had a definite idea of how it should be; some dreamed from childhood of the classic white wedding in a church with choirs singing and wedding bells ringing, others have opted for a stunning venue, such as a stately home licensed for weddings, with formal gardens and beautiful rooms and guests staying over for a few days, and others for something rural, charming and less formal, but still requiring the services of the registrar. So inevitably, there is a great deal of activity going on at present to reschedule events, and the registry office’s phone line is hot. The available dates will be stretching further and further out of view, causing even greater disappointment as everything is put back.
We know that it is not going to be possible for gatherings of any size to take place in the next few months, but, with luck, we can hope that later this year, the restrictions will have lifted, and life will have returned to some sort of normality. If however, the registry office is by then so booked up that weddings have to be postponed even further, it might be worth considering the idea of a wedding ceremony, conducted privately, which as an independent celebrant I can do in your own garden, venue of choice – such as a family home or barn, or outdoors in a rural setting. The registration of your wedding could take place later when the time slot becomes free, but at least the celebration of your union will have been possible with no further delays, with your loved ones witnessing your exchange of vows and rings, and raising a glass to your future happiness, as hoped for. That could happen as soon as we have the authorisation that the current restrictions are to be lifted, and the rest of your life would not be put on hold any further. If that is of interest to you, then please get in touch, and I can discuss how I can work with you in my role as an independent celebrant to achieve your dreamed for day, sooner than might otherwise now be possible. Have a look at my website to see what others have said about how they felt their day went, and if this might be the way forward for you.
All is not lost, there is hope for the future; it is all around us right now, even when times seem so dark; it is in the leaves that are unfurling and the buds that are blossoming, the grass that is growing and the sap that is rising. Take courage from the wisdom of nature that we will survive, and all will be well.
